Our Mission and Vision

OUR MISSION

Winter Walk believes that ending homelessness starts with ending stigma. Our mission is to uplift the voices of those who have experienced homelessness, breaking down negative images and stereotypes through storytelling and education.

Each February, our efforts culminate in a powerful community event—the Winter Walk. This ‘Call to Action’ brings together housed and unhoused individuals to walk side-by-side during the coldest month of the year, creating a united community committed to addressing homelessness. It's a day when everyone—regardless of where they sleep—comes together to raise awareness and demand change.

Winter Walk proudly amplifies the vital work of service providers who offer compassionate and comprehensive care to homeless communities every day. During the event, the voices of unhoused individuals and those who care for them take center stage in our civic life, highlighting homelessness as a critical issue that can—and should—be resolved swiftly. With our nation’s abundant resources and collective will, we believe this catastrophe can be ended.

Our work is grounded in the belief that raising awareness through personal stories helps create lasting systemic change. We unite thousands of participants, fundraisers, and supporters, working together to give people experiencing homelessness a platform to share their stories, break through stigma, and be heard. By lifting these voices, we strive to foster understanding and create meaningful impact.

OUR VISION

The Winter Walk is an organization that believes ending homelessness is within our reach. Our mission is to raise awareness and funds towards that goal, and to support organizations that are working on prevention, support, and care for our homeless community. Our year-round work in education, outreach, and advocacy, culminates in a monumental walk every February. Together we raise voices in hope that we are just steps away from not only ending homelessness, but also from creating lasting systemic change.

Every year we host a 2 mile walk outside in each host city. Participants, housed and unhoused, will walk shoulder to shoulder and then share a meal together and hear stories from those with lived experience of homelessness.

We are proud to share that we have expanded our Winter Walk Event program to include fundraising Walks in NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Tallahassee and Western Mass, in addition to our home city of Boston.

Homelessness can happen to anybody, to people you know, or even to you. Each person has a unique story. All of them are our neighbors in need, and we can help. We will share stories and celebrate, and learn how we can then do more.

We hope you will join us on this journey.
